Afriski – Lesotho

Posted by on July 15, 2013

I woke up one morning and decided it was time… so I strapped my snowboard to my Yamaha Super Ténéré, and headed for the Kingdom in the Sky to go find some white stuff.

The bike ride through Lesotho is definitely something I’m going to have to do again. The roads are just amazing to ride on. The way the roads wind back and forth through the mountains. Nature decides where its going to allow the road to be built rather than some over engineered team of blasters and cutters getting involved. The views from that high up are also just outstanding.

The snowboarding was great too. The slope is all man-made snow still, but its a good 900m long on the main slope so it’s great fun. I had some super runs. The first few runs of each day I just pointed nose down and let it rip. Once the legs were nice a jello, I got in some with good carving getting epic spray onto the T-bar riders and even worked on carving switch. Although I had a few epic spills that saw me skidding and spraying for at least 15m, the worst bruise I have is from that damn T-bar. Man they need to find a different solution for towing people up the hill.

Altogether a super weekend, and definitely worth repeating… soon…
